Commitment to Strengthen Devolution by The Second National Assembly of the Kenya Devolution Civil Society Organizations Working Group (KDCWG)
The Second National Assembly of the Kenya Devolution Civil Society Organizations Working Group (KDCWG) concluded today with a strong commitment from the government of Kenya to strengthen devolution.
While giving the closing remarks on behalf of Teresia Mbaika, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Devolution, Kennedy Nyambati, the Director for Capacity Building and Technical Assistance emphasized the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in governance, accountability and service delivery.
"As a government, we recognize and appreciate the invaluable role of civil society in complementing our efforts to strengthen devolution. The State Department for Devolution remains committed to fostering meaningful engagement with civil society organizations in policy formulation, implementation, and monitoring of devolution processes," said Director Nyambati.
The two-day assembly, held in Nairobi, brought together policymakers, development partners and CSO representatives to discuss enhancing social accountability, transparency and participatory governance.
Director Nyambati commended Act Change Transform and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) for their support through the Kenya Devolution Programme (KDP) – Timiza Ugatuzi.
The Kenya Devolution Programme has played a crucial role in policy development, capacity building and advocacy, including the formulation of key policies and participation in regional and global forums.
Director Nyambati encouraged the CSOs to sustain advocacy, civic education, and public policy engagement to ensure devolution remains effective and people-centered.
