ICT Sector Forum

The State Department for Devolution Principal Secretary Michael Loikenu Lenasalon yesterday attended the ICT Intergovernmental Sector Forum in Mombasa that marked an important step towards deeper national–county collaboration in the ICT sector.
‎The meeting was co-chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, Hon. Hon. William Kabogo Gitau and H.E. Wisley Rotich, Governor of Elgeyo Marakwet County and Chair of the ICT committee of the Council of Governors-Kenya, and it was held to strengthen collaboration and accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation by addressing bottlenecks that slow progress and investment in the counties.
‎The forum addressed wayleave challenges, harmonisation of levies on digital infrastructure, categorisation of ICT infrastructure as critical as well as expanding internet connectivity as well as digital skilling of youth from all counties.
‎ A key highlight from the meeting was the signing of a set of resolutions with County Governments that will focus on harmonizing wayleave and licensing frameworks, protecting critical digital infrastructure, strengthening cyber security coordination and accelerating implementation of the Kenya National Digital Master Plan.
‎Together, these actions will reduce the cost of deploying ICT infrastructure, improve service delivery and support inclusive digital transformation across all 47 counties.
‎Attendees included the Principal Secretaries (ICT and Digital Economy) Eng. John Tanui; Chair of the IGRTC -Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee CPA Kithinji Kiragu; Council of Governors Director Hon. Kizito Wangalwa; Secretary ICT Jonam Kinama; Kisumu Deputy Governor H.E. Dr. Mathew Ochieng’ Owili; and other senior national and county stakeholders.
